What should you do when you get a message that your password is going to expire?

  • Click "YES" to change your password
  • Create a password that you will be able to remember - typically the best passwords contain three letter followed by two number followed by three letters
  • Example:  sam23iam
  • Reset your new password, then email it to Mrs. Wiseman

You want to have a document posted on the district website

  • Create the document using: Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, or Publisher
  • If the document is for the news area of the main district web page place the information in a press release form (the Press Release form is on the Public drive - staff folder - forms file)
  • Email that document to your building supervisor or principal
  • Please indicate where you would like to have the page(s) linked from on the district website
  • Your supervisor or principal will forward the document to Mrs. Wiseman if it is approved or reply to you if it needs changed or is denied
  • Mrs. Wiseman will publish the documents once they have been approved
  • You do not need to fill out a technology work order for web items

Can't connect to e-mail, the internet or the server...

  • Check with others in your area. Is anyone else having a problem, or is just on your computer? If others are having the same problem, the network may be down temporarily.
  • If you can log into the terminal server, then the network is not down you can still do work and save it to your user file.
  • If the problem is only your email the the mail server may be down and you will have to wait until the problem is resolved.

Information to gather before you submit a work order...

  • What kind of computer are you using?
  • What application are you having problems with?
  • Is there an error message? If so, write it down.
  • Keep track of what you are doing when the problem occurs. (Starting up? Opening an application? Saving a document? Printing from a specific program? Connecting to the internet?)
  • Try to isolate the problem. Can you print one document, but not another? Can you print from one application, but not from another? Does the freeze happen only in one application or in all? Does it happen when you are doing a specific task?

  Helpful Hints/Ideas

If you are going to be doing something that you have not done before or do not do on a daily basis try to plan ahead and ask a few questions.  Be sure to follow protocol, your immediate supervisor, team leader, committee chair person, or building principal might already have the answers to these questions or know who to contact to get the information first hand.  Also keep in mind that the Technology Facilitator for the district is here to help you plan for use of district technology.

  •  Will you be using a computer program you’ve not used before? Make sure the program is loaded, you and everyone that will be using it has access to it. Make some time to test it out before you “have to have it”.  See if the program works that way it should (all functions!).  If a program is loaded on the Terminal Server most any district user can be set up to access it from anywhere in the district.

  •  Will you be on the internet? Have you ever accessed the web site you will be working on from a district computer connected to the district network?  If this is the case log on to the site ahead of time to be sure it is not blocked by our ISP.  If it is blocked you will need to send the Technology Facilitator an email with the URL (web site address) so they can contact the district ISP and ask them to remove the block for that site.

  •  Will you be in the building you are assigned to or a different building in the district?  Where ever you are going to be make sure the technology is connect to the network if needed and working properly; computers will turn on and connect to the network, you have access to a printer in that building if you will have a need to print, you have access/codes to a copy machine if you will be needing to make copies. We can set any network user up to print to any network printer but it takes a few minutes as server settings have to be changed and the user has to log out of their user account.

  •  Do you need a projector? – Digital camera? – Laptop?  We have access to lots of different types of technology and many different ways to make all of it work but not all technology is compatible.  Some projectors and cameras might “connect” to a computer fine but they need special software for all functions to work properly.
