ART I
* The student is expected to compare and contrast the use of art elements and principles, using vocabulary accurately.
**Produce drawings, paintings, prints, sculptures, ceramics, fiber art, photographic imagery, and electronic media-generated art, using a variety of art materials and tools in traditional and experimental ways.
Lesson Plan:
Zentangle Designs
Expected Duration: 10-12 class periods
Principles & Element of Art: Line
Vocabulary Words:
Line, curvilinear, repetition, pattern, contour, expressive lines, implied lines, hatching, cross hatching, vertical & horizontal lines.
Lesson Objective(s): (What is it we expect our students to learn?)
Students will be introduced to the Element of LINE and create a final picture showing different types of lines.
STUDENTS WILL:
Hold the pen in such a way that it allows them to make deliberate strokes.
Use the steps as an aide to getting started with each Zentangle.
Be open and willing to try to try an experience that may be outside theiry typical comfort zones.
Make controlled marks (tangles), on the tile.
Listen and follow directions
Given direct instruction on certain tangles, students will apply what they see to their own tiles.
Recognize repetitive patterns in everyday life, including the natural world, art and architecture, clothing, etc
Incorporate repetitive patterns they have observed into new tangles.
Utilize the process of completing a Zentangle as a strategy for relaxation and stress relief.
Instructional Strategies/Activities:
Allow students to observe a variety of Zentangles. Explain that they will be able to create these works of art by working one stroke at a time.
Discuss what is meant by “stroke” and allow students to share ideas.
Show instructional DVD to introduce methods to students.
Demonstrate beginning steps of a Zentangle and discuss their purpose.
Introduce some tangles by demonstrating them on a large paper and allow students to recreate them through guided practice.
Continue creating guided Zentangles together and model shading and signing Zentangles. Students will create an organized Zentangle design on final paper.
Evaluation of Student Learning:
1.Observation of students level of engagement during instruction and individual practice.
2.Observation of students concentration and effort.
3.Observation of students’ abilities to incorporate patterns they observe into Zentangles.
4.Did the student understand the Element of Line?
5.Was the composition neat and well executed?
6.Did the student make good use of their time?
