**Produce drawings, paintings, prints, sculptures, ceramics, fiber  art, photographic imagery, and electronic media-generated art, using a variety of art materials and tools in traditional and experimental ways.

 

Art Project 1:

Lesson:  Wall Mural/ Door Painting

Expected Duration:

 10+ class periods

 

Principles & Elements of Art: Line, color, shape, texture, space, balance, movement, contrast, unity

 

Vocabulary Words:

mural, maquette, line, color, shape, texture, space, value

 

 Lesson Objective(s): What is it we expect our students to learn?

To formulate mural ideas related to a subject of their choice (water, space, animals, etc.).

 

*To combine their knowledge of the Elements and Principles of Art and apply it to their mural.

 

*To illustrate their ideas and construct a large scale piece of artwork within their murals.

 

Evaluation of Student Learning:

*Craftsmanship-uses art tools skillfully.

*Originality-Creativity.

*Uses time wisely and shows respect for materials and facility.

*Listened and followed directions.

*Effort-Took sufficient time to complete project.

*Growth and progress-How does the work compare to previous work?

* Left very little negative space in their artwork.

* Artwork is large.

*Mural is overall intended theme.

Advanced Art- Project 2

Lesson Plan:

Sophisticated Scratch Art Designs

 

Expected Duration:  10 + class periods

Principles & Elements of Art:

Texture, line, positive/negative shapes,

 

Vocabulary Words: Texture, line, contrast, positive/negative shapes, cross hatching, hatching

 

Lesson Objective(s): (What is it we expect our students to learn?)

Students will demonstrate the use of a variety of lines in a scratch art design.

Students will demonstrate the use of pattern within the body of their scratch art subjects.

Students will use and define their theme and selection of symbols within the body of their subjects.

Students will use and define positive and negative shapes in their work.

 

Instructional Strategies/Activities:

 

1. View scratch art links or teacher created Power Point presentation of scratch board artwork. Get ideas from them.

 

2. Discuss the use of line and pattern in the works observed.

 

3. Discuss positive and negative shapes.

 

4. Sketch examples of chosen subject making sure to emphasize line.

 

5. Using a scratch tool, etch chosen subject on to scratch board.

Make sure to not leave too much negative space. Add a border frame if necessary.

 

 

Evaluation of Student Learning:

 

 Uses at least 5 different types of lines.

 

Clearly creates pattern within the composition.

 

Balances positive and negative shapes.

 

Demonstrates neatness.

 

Articulates knowledge of work and work of others through discussion and presentation.

 

Did student make good use of their time?

 

Is overall composition of a level for advanced art students?
